High Tensile Steel 690 in Fast Ships Structures (FASDHTS)

Duration: 01.04.2000 – 31.03.2004 (48 months)

Coordination: TNO (The Netherlands)

Partners: Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal), AF-Industriteknik AB (Sweden), Chantiers d’Atlantique (France), Fincantieri (Italy), Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (Germany), Lisnave (Portugal), Royal Schelde Group, Dillinger Hütte GTS, Bureau Veritas (France), Germanischer Lloyd (Germany), Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), Technical University Hamburg-Harburg (Germany)

Funding Entity: EU - Programme GROWTH

The overall objective of the project is to pave the way for the realisation of a new generation of fast and large ships, which are cost efficient and reliable as well. For the realisation, innovative concepts are generated, applying reliability based design methodologies. Probabilistic procedures are used for assessing the required strength. First principle methods are applied, based on physical and mechanical models. These concepts are characterised by zero corrosion, light weight and fast and cheap production. Finally, theoretically and experimentally validated concepts and design methodologies must be delivered, ready for certification.
