Casualty Analysis Methodology for Maritime Operations (CASMET)

The purpose of the project is to address task 21 and 26 of the 4th framework programme for waterborne transport. These tasks aim at: Facilitating the development of a common methodology for the investigation of maritime accidents and the reporting of hazardous incidents (task 21). Improving the understanding of human factors as related to accidents and to account for these factors in the common methodology (task 36). These aims will be realized through: - The development or casualty analysis methodology which will adequately address human and organizational errors; - To development of a policy impact assessment tool which will address such errors and which is supported by the casualty model; - The demonstration or the results of the proposed casualty analysis methodology and the evaluation of its impact with selected cases; - The development of a comprehensive procedure and methodology for the investigation and analysis of maritime casualties with a view to introducing a common, EU casualty database.
