Duration: 01.08.1990 - 28.02.1993

Coordination: CETENA (Itália)

Partners: Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal), Bureau Veritas (France), Institut Français pour la Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer (France), FINCANTIERI (Italy), MIKI (Italy), Ecole Nationale Supérieure Mécanique (France), Centre Technique d'Industrie Mécanique (France), Vetoresima (Itália), Registro Italiano Navale (Italy)

Funding Entity: Eu Programme BRITE/EURAM

The purpose of the study was to increase the accuracy of methods used to quantify the properties of the composite material. It considered the application of the structure of composite materials and structural components of small and medium vessels, specially fishing vessels, having as a specific objective the improvements of actual construction regulations. The use of various types of composite materials for ship hull and deck were studied and were characterised by extreme and cyclic loads. The specific objectives of the study are: - Update of the design rules by means of increasing the accuracy of the prediction the material strength and the quantification of safety coefficients through probabilistic methods. - Define standards for verification of direct calculations of complex structures with large dimensions made of composite materials.
