Enhancing Shared Mooring SysteM Design for floating Offshore Wind Farms (ESOMOOR)
Duration: 2024-12-14 – 2027-12-13 (36 months)
Coordination: Technical University of Denmark
Partners: BEXCO; Chalmers University of Technology; DHI; DNV; École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancéesde Bretagne; CENTEC/IST-ID; NKT; Norrsidans Innovation; Roma Tre University; Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
The ESOMOOR project aims to significantly advance the mooring technologies for large-scale Floating Offshore Wind Farms (FOWFs), substantially lower the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of FOWTs while optimizing energy conversion efficiency, elevating associated technologies to a higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL), and bolstering industry confidence in the application of innovative solutions in future wind farm deployments.
To achieve the overarching goals, ESOMOOR will conduct experimental and simulation-based prototype demonstrations of the next game-changing mooring technologies, including shared mooring and extensive use of mooring lines made of polyester and polyamide. This endeavor will enhance the understanding of existing safety concerns and related design procedures. Additionally, ESOMOOR will develop enhanced simulation tools and modeling techniques to support the demonstration and validation process. Finally, the project will deliver open-source tools and validation data to the industry for use and validation.
