An improved understanding of the present and future marine climatology is necessary for various marine and coastal activities as the design of ship and marine structures, optimization of ship routes, evaluation of wave energy resources, offshore industry and risk of coastal flooding. The main objective of CLIMENA is to study the impacts of climate change in the North Atlantic wind and wave climate with special focus on the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. This project is a follow up of the CLIBECO project (EXPL/AAG-MAA/1001/2013) and aims both to complete the work started in CLIBECO where expertise was developed and methods tested, extend the simulations, evaluate changes at different spatial and temporal scales, relate to large scale atmospheric regimes and finally apply them to study the impacts of marine climate change on different areas as routing of maritime transportation and assessment of wave and wind resources in the Iberian Coast.
