Rogue-Waves - Forecast and Impact on Marine Structures (MAXWAVE)

Duration: 01.12.2000 – 30.11.2003 (36 months)

Coordination: GKSS Forschungszentrum Geesthacht (D)

Partners: Instituto Superior Técnico (PT), Norwegian Meteorological Institute (N); Remote Sensing Technology Institute (D); The UK Meteorological Office (UK); Météo-France (F); Ocean SenseWare (D); Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (B); Technische Universitat Berlin (D) and Det Norske Veritas (N)

Funding Entity: EU – Programme EESD

Project Website: http://w3g.gkss.de/projects/maxwave

The aim of the project is to investigate the occurrence and the properties of low frequency wave fields and of extreme individual waves and wave groups in deep and in shallow water. Special attention will be given to regions for which freak waves or low frequency waves are reported more frequently. In addition, the project consortium wants to draw conclusions for ship design and offshore design from the impact of rogue waves on ships and on offshore constructions.
