Perera, P., Carvalho, J. e Guedes Soares, C. (2009), “Decision Making System for the Collision Avoidance of Marine Vessel Navigation based on COLREGs Rules and Regulations”, Proceedings of the 13th Congress of International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean (IMAM´09), 12-15 Outubro, Istanbul, Turkey

Autonomous Guidance and Navigation will be an important part of the future ocean navigation due to the cost reductions and maritime safety. Therefore implementation of an intelligence decision making system during the ocean navigation is a mandatory requirement to achieve above objectives. This paper has been focused on a fuzzy logic based decision making system to implement on vessel navigation to improve the safety of the vessel and to avoid the collision situations. The Fuzzy-logic based decision making system, which is formulated for human type thinking, has been created human friendly environment to facilitate the collision avoidance capabilities for marine vessels. Further, proper formulated fuzzy logic based decision making system has the advantage of simulating actions of an experienced helmsman during ocean navigation. The collision avoidance of target vessel with respect to the vessel domain of own vessel has been analyzed and fuzzy membership functions have been derived in this study. Fuzzy rule based (IF-THEN) decision marking system has been formulated and implemented on the MATLAB software platform. Fuzzy max-min rules were considered for the defuzzification process.
