Ocean wave data, obtained from simulations in tank and field measurements, were used to provide further assessment on the quality of using the autocorrelation function to estimate the most likely time trace profile around large ocean wave crests. It was concluded that the model is adequate in many cases, but tradeoff between taking large crests to reduce the error and the increase in error due to nonlinearity is not always favorable.
