The paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the added masses and damping coefficients of a model of a fast mono-hull. A model with 4.5m between perpendiculars was constructed in Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) with 4 segments connected by a backbone. The backbone was instrumented with six components dynamometers made up of load cells at the positions of the cuts. This configuration, combined with load cells measuring the forced exerted by the forced motion actuators, made possible to derive the distribution of hydrodynamic coefficients for each of the four hull segments. The investigation focused on the vertical motions, thus the experimental program included forced harmonic heave and pitch motions in calm water (no incoming waves). Subtracting the inertial and restoring forces from the total measured forces, one obtains the hydrodynamic component, which then results in the hydrodynamic coefficients. The effects of the steady forward speed on the radiation forces are carefully investigated by conducting tests at four forward speed regimes. Finally, the nonlinear effects are assessed by doing tests for three amplitudes of the heave and also pitch forced motions.
