The Reliability Engineering Journal was established in 1980 under the leadership of FR Farmer, Imperial College in London. The journal was very much focused on the operation of plants, looking at the reliability of components and systems, although being somewhat broad on the topics addressed such as: the collection and analysis of failure data; the multiphase relationship between reliability engineering and risk assessment; the risk analysis of specific plants, systems or operations such as transport; failure distributions; management of reliability; reliability analysis of structures; human factors in reliability; reliability in software and reliability statistics. It is interesting to note that after 40 years, these topics remain relevant for the Journal and are very much in line with the profile of the journal as represented by its contents.
