A moored-floating model, which is a simplified single-body point absorber WEC, is considered. The model consists of a buoy and a rotation-free rigid rod with a linear spring-damper system located between the buoy and seabed. Four geometries are considered for the buoy; two of which are unconventional. The moored buoys are analyzed in the identical conditions. The dynamic response of the buoys under second-order Stokes waves excitations in the frequency domain is studied. Also, the performance of the models in the process of energy absorption is investigated and compared. It is found that the geometry of the buoy can have a positive effect on the improvement of the heave motion of the buoy in regular waves. The oscillation amplitude of the moored buoy with cosine curve geometry in heave was more than other moored buoys. This advantage is also seen at the heave oscillation velocity and absorbed power from waves.
