Petrova, P.G. e Guedes Soares, C. (2006), “Distribution of Shallow Water Wave Heights in an Offshore Basin in the Presence of Currents”, Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Marine Sciences and Technologies (BlackSea 2006), 25-27 Setembro, Varna, Bulgaria, pp. 205-211

The paper presents results of a study on the distribution of heights of shallow-water waves measured in an offshore basin. Irregular wave fields with approximately 3-hour duration have been generated following a JONSWAP type spectrum. The sets of tank data refer to two cases: wave fields without current action and wave fields influenced by a uniform following current at increasing velocity. The tests are coupled, such as each current velocity corresponds to two sea states with significant wave heights of 3.5m and 7m, respectively. The peak period is constant for all model tests performed. The study aims at validating existing wave height probability distributions in different sea states generated in the offshore basin and to identify the effect of the currents on the wave height statistics. The obtained results are subsequently compared with full-scale storm data from the Bulgarian coastal zone.
