A series finite element analyses is performed for stiffened panels under combined biaxial loads and lateral pressure because the buckling collapse strength of deck and bottom stiffened panels is an important design requirement for the safety of ship hull girder. Periodical boundary conditions in the longitudinal direction for two spans and two bays model provides an appropriate model to the behaviour of a continuous stiffened panel and thus, is adopted to reduce the model uncertainty for the analysis. The initial deflections are assumed as described by Fourier components with small magnitude, which are used to identify the collapse shape and buckling half-wave number of the local plate. Some important factors that influence the ultimate limit states are studied including the structural dimensions of plates and stiffeners, the level and the shape of the initial imperfections and loading types. Based on this, the influence of buckling half-wave number considering the interaction of the plates and stiffeners on ultimate strength are investigated by the nonlinear FE analysis.
