Hydrogen sulfide—a highly poisonous, explosive and corrosive gas has been identified as a renewable energy source from the Black Sea with a great potential. There were several methods suggested for hydrogen sulfide exploration and utilization—from hydrogen dissociation, storage and usage as energy fuel, to power generation in hydrogen sulfide ‘fuel cells’. The main objective of this article is to present a concept for an Offshore Sulfide Power Plant (OSPP) of a commercial significance. In this study, different designs of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) floating, spar or semi-submersible design concepts are discussed. A study was made on an octagonal semi-submersible and spar type sulfide power plant that apart from hydrogen sulfide provides an option for utilization of multi-renewable energy sources, such as OTEC, solar and wind. For the Concept Assessment purpose, the stability, motions, structural response, hull configuration, lightship weight, deep-water pipe disconnection, mooring, etc. issues are identified and discussed. In the present study, a concept structural design and general arrangement of OSPP is presented. The basic evaluation, limited to the weight and cost of the floating structure, is performed, which is going to be used for a further and more thorough feasibility study.
