This study deals with the fatigue reliability analysis of a butt-welded joint in a bulk carrier. The formulation for the assessment of the reliability is built on the S-N approach and FORM technique. The study uses the initial fatigue analysis related to the closed form approach and the ones based on the long-term response and spectral approach damage assessment and accounts for the existing uncertainties originating from fatigue phenomenon, load and stress calculations and fabrication. Sensitivity with respect to the random variables involved in the reliability limit state function are analyzed and the partial safety factors that can be used in the design are defined and determined.
