A bivariate gamma distribution was fitted to an empirical joint probability density of steepness and height for deep water waves. The goodness of fit of the bivariate gamma was compared to goodness of fit obtained with a Gumbel copula for the same data. The analysis was prepared on the basis of 86 min. long time series generated in an offshore basin.
