A system for the design of structural elements of ships was developed as part of a software package created to assist the design and production stages of ship hull design. The system is oriented for the interactive geometric design of internal hull structural components in a graphical display. The required data of the hull surface shape is obtained from the shared database of hull lines, produced by other modules of the package. The system relies on the parametrics generation of shapes in accordance with standards of detail design. The information about the denerated parts is stored in database, and can be visualised in 3D, individually or assembled as blocks. Interrogating the database, information for partgeneration, process control and assembling can be obtained. The system generates information for the development and bending of plates and profiles. Support for interactive nesting of parts is included. The system was developed over a commercial CAD package, to run on personal computers of the x86 CPU family, so it can be attractive to small and medium size shipyards with limited computing power.
