Filina-Dawidowicz, L., Santos, T.A. e Guedes Soares, C. (2016), “Refrigerated cargo handling: demand and requirements for Portuguese ports”, Maritime Technology and Engineering 3, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T. A., (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 61-72

The main objective of the paper is to analyze the existing handling capacity of refrigerated containers and its utilization in container terminals in Portuguese ports and to define demand and infrastructure requirements for containerized refrigerated cargo handling and servicing taking into account possible throughput growth. The paper analyses seven container terminals located in the four main Portuguese ports: Leixões, Lisbon, Setúbal and Sines. Terminal’s location and infrastructure is described and utilization capacity for refrigerated containers of existing container terminals is assessed. Infrastructure demand and requirements are determined. It is found that terminals generally are well prepared for the predicted capacity utilization growth. Among the recommendations, main attention needs to be paid to yard capacity improvement, reduction of dwell time and development of service’s quality and range.
