Appropriate prediction of hydrodynamic interaction between moving ship hulls is important for adequate simulation of ship manoeuvring motion. In addition, in shallow waters, it is strong the dynamic sinkage and trim of ships also known as squat. This can especially influence the hydrodynamic characteristics of the ship hull in manoeuvring motion in general but also affects interaction forces. Despite of that, most of existing mathematical models for ship-to-ship interaction consider only motion in the horizontal plane ignoring the mentioned influence. As possible error definitely is not conservative, the present contribution attempts to investigate that influence. Empiric methods for estimating the squat and interaction forces and moments are combined and fuse with the existing offline in-house manoeuvring simulation system. A series of studies have been carried out comparing interaction forces with and without account for squat. The numerical results have shown that at small bottom clearances influence of the squat may be substantial and should be accounted for in practical simulations.
