This work deals with the uncertainties involved in modelling the directionality of waves in the calculations of wave induced load effects. In the short term description attention is addressed to the modelling of the spreading function defining wave short-crestedness, including the dependence of these functions on the significant wave height. In the long-term formulations, this work addresses the directionality of the wave climate data and its effect on the wave induced load effects. The effect of accounting for the directionality is quantified by a modelling factor obtained with reference to the calculations that do not include the present developments.
