In order to characterize the wave conditions and assess the wave energy potential around the Canary Island, a 10-year hindcast system is developed. The third generation wave model, WAVEWATCH III is used to generate waves In order to characterize the wave conditions and assess the wave energy potential around the Canary Island, a 10-year hindcast system is developed. The third generation wave model, WAVEWATCH III is used to generate waves for the entire North Atlantic basin and a transformation model, SWAN, is used to study the evolution of the waves. The hindcast system has been previously validated with buoy measurements; a good agreement was observed. Consequently, in the current study an evaluation of the variability of wave energy resource in the Canary Islands is performed.
