Guedes Soares, C. (2000), “Impact Strength of Glass-Fibre Composites”, Proceedings of the International Conference on Lightweight Construction Latest Developments, Londres, 24-25 Fevereiro, paper 11, pp 1-9

The paper presents results of experimental studies leading to the understanding of the impact behaviour of glass fibre reinforced composites, in particular the relation between the incident energy and the maximum force developed in the material. Different weights of woven roving and chopped stand mat reinforcement was used, both with polyester and epoxy resins. For a given type of material the force to perforate the material limits the maximum force that it can sustain. The assumption that the failure is of shear type allows a theoretical model to provide a very good explanation of the experimental results.
