The collapse strength of square of plates with initial imperfections is studied on the basis of results of a non-linear finite element code which takes into account both geometric and material non linearities. The results bring some new evidence about the effect of the different components of the shape of the initial distortions on the collapse strength of square plates, in particular as it relates with the boundary conditions and slenderness of the plate.
