In the present study, the performance of floating oscillating water columns (FOWC) similar to the Backward Bent Duct Buoy (BBDB) is analysed in finite water depth based on the linearized water wave theory in the two dimensional Cartesian coordinate systems. In this regard, it is assumed that the compressibility of the air is small so that the air pressure at the turbine is same as the uniformly distributed pressure just above the internal free surface. Further, the turbine characteristics are assumed linear so that the pressure drop across the turbine is proportional to the volume flow through it. It is assumed that the floating OWC has three degrees of freedom in the direction of surge, heave and pitch motions. In order to estimate the efficiency of the device, theory introduced by Falnes and McIver (1985) is used. The free surface inside the chambers is modelled as a non-plane wave surface. Boundary Integral Equation Method (BIEM) is employed to solve the associated boundary value problem (BVP) and the multi region concept is used to overcome the numerical errors due to the assumption of thin barriers. The numerical results are compared with the existing numerical and analytical results and the accuracy of the numerical model is evaluated. Eventually, the geometrical effects of the floating OWC on the primary efficiency of the device are investigated. Further, the effect of the incident wave direction in 2D case on the capacity of the wave power absorption is discussed.
