In the present study, the performance of vertical flapping thin plate in oblique incident waves is analyzed based on the linearized wave theory. The linear potential theory is used to develop the hydrodynamic model for the vertical oscillating body. The power capture by the vertical flapping thin plate is presented which is influenced by the wave force and wave frequency close to natural frequency. The numerical values for the radiation damping and wave making coefficient due to the roll motion of the thin vertical plate is analyzed. In addition, the change in the angle of incidence and the height of vertical flapping plate for various limiting cases is discussed. The present study will be helpful for proper design of the vertical flapping thin plate as wave energy converter for the extraction of wave energy. Further, the study will exploit the effect of resonance in enhancing the amplitude of the oscillation of the flapping plate to capture more wave power.
