A CFD model based on OPENFOAM is used to study the performance of a wedge-shaped wave maker and a wave absorber in a wave tank. A new approach on the numerical wave generation is presented using the ability of the RANS model to reproduce with accuracy the interaction of a moving rigid body, the wedge shaped wave maker in this case, with the fluid. The numerical results are compared with test results from the operation of the tank in various conditions in order to verify the adequacy of the numerical model.
