This work analyses the effect of shake down and corrosion degradation on ultimate strength assessment of a steel welded plate. The analysis is performed in several steps by finite element method employing commercial software. In the first step, the heat source is defined as a moving heat one in order to simulate welding processes and consequently to estimate residual stresses in the second step. A mathematical model is developed to account for a time dependent residual stress reduction, which is used in the third step to evaluate ultimate strength. Modified material stress strain curves are developed to account for the effect of shakedown and corrosion degradation that can be directly used in the non-linear finite element analyses estimating the ultimate strength of steel plates.
