The hydroelastic response of an elastic wedge entering into calm water is investigated in this paper. A fully coupled method, which involves a Lagrangian formulation and an Eulerian formulation, is applied to study the middle deflection and pressure distribution on the structure surface. The Lagrangian formulation is used to describe plane-strain deformations, and the Eulerian formulation is used to analyze the behaviors of the fluid particles. The coupling force between the Lagrangian and the Eulerian nodes is computed by a penalty algorithm. Deformations of the wedge and of the water are coupled through the hydrodynamic pressure exerted by water on the structure’s surface, and the particle velocities on the wetted surface affecting the water surface. This method is verified by comparing the predicted middle deflections of a wedge with different thickness with the published results. Then the hydroelastic effects are investigated through the comparison of pressure distributions from this fully coupled method and those results from the rigid case.
