This paper summarises recent work developed by the authors on the topic of Occupational Safety (OS). It presents an overall review on this matter and related themes, but it puts greater emphasis on the state of affairs of occupational safety in a number of industrial sectors in Portugal. This review looks back to what has been achieved and forward to future challenges. Although the future is always harder to foresee, the authors propose a few directions to pursue in this line of research.
