This paper presents a finite element model and an analysis of large-scale specimen of box girders subjected to four-point loading. Extensive nonlinear finite element analyses have been performed to find out the best configuration of the model by varying the initial imperfection (shape and amplitude) and mesh size that affect the ultimate strength and post-collapse behaviour. The results achieved by the use of the adopted finite element models demonstrate a very good agreement with the three-linear trend of the bending moment-curvature behaviour of an intact box girder. Furthermore, a comparison with different box girders having different material properties and geometrical descriptions has been carried out.
