An analysis is made of about 20 years of ship accidents (1978-1999) in the North Atlantic. Only accidents that have occurred under bad weather are considered. The analysis discriminates the different types of accidents and the different ship types. The geographical distribution of the accidents is also analysed and it is compared with the geographical distribution of wave severity as obtained for ocean wave atlas.
