Varela, J.M., Ventura, M. e Guedes Soares, C. (2008), “Fast Ship Structures Modelling System for Hull Maintenance Support”, Proceedings of the Ship Repair Technology (SRT´08), 1-2. September, Newcastle – UK

Hull measurement campaigns result in thousands of measurement points. The hull condition assessment and any decisions about eventual material renewal are based on the analysis of these measurements, which require the values of the as-built thicknesses and the admissible reductions of the respective structural components. The location of the measurement points into a 3D model of the hull structures improves the process not only by allowing the visualization of the current status of the structural parts but also by displaying the results obtained from the analysis. Such a model does not require much geometric accuracy, but the existing plates and stiffeners must be identifiable and associated to their as-built data and structural system. This work describes a modelling system designed for the fast parametric generation of a 3D model of the hull structure, oriented for the support of hull condition data assessment and monitoring. The modelling concept and methodology is discussed and the architecture of the system is presented, describing the main components. A simulated campaign demonstration scenario that was used for testing and validation of the system is also presented.
