A free surface, finite difference code for free surface turbulent flow is used for simulating the free surface flow around ship hulls. Two working environments with the specific compilation options have been used in order to asses the efficiency of e ach of them. Several configurations of the 4-nodes cluster have been compared in terms of speed. Also, the size of the computational domain has been changed for evaluating the speed and efficiency of the data transfer and its impact on the overall computational speed. The free surface incompressible turbulent flow around the hull is investigated by the numerical solution of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations for slightly compressible flows and the results are compared with numerical and experimental results obtained by different authors. The Beam and Warming implicit factorized scheme is used to solve the governing equations and Large Eddy Simulation is used together with the Smagorinsky sub-grid scale model (SGS) to simulate the turbulent flow. The Wigley hull is fixed with reference to the initial grid. The computational grid is generated using a multi-surface algebraic grid generator and is capable of concentrating points in the "delicate" zones using geometric stretching. The free surface is treated through the re-meshing technique, using an algebraic routine for accompanying the displacements. Fourth order artificial dissipation is added to the numerical scheme in order to prevent the apparition of physically unrealistic results. The complexity and high sensitivity of such a physical flow phenomenon requires an accurate and robust numerical model. The proposed numerical solution is able to provide a good picture of the real physics of the turbulent flow. The numerical results compare fairly well with experimental results from various sources.
