This paper presents a numerical simulation model of a two-stroke marine diesel engine which, as prime mover, is a very important component of the propulsion system. The thermodynamic and the mechanical processes in the engine are simulated. The simulation is done as a function of the crank angle. The model describes the dynamic behavior of the engine, taking into account the surrounded ambient conditions and the type of fuel used. Two methods are used to estimate the value of the exhaust receiver pressure and temperature of other engines. The mole fractions of equilibrium combustion product are also calculated. The simulation results for a speed range are validated using data from real engines. This model can be used to calculate the behavior of any two-stroke diesel engine and is intended to be a component of a simulation tool of the complete propulsion system.
