This paper reports on the analysis of records of sea surface collected from a directional buoy of Figueira da Foz, in Portugal. Two different methods of estimating the directional spreading function are used in the study and the differences in the estimated directional spreading function are identified. Theoretical models of directional spreading functions are adjusted to the data and it is concluded that the differences between the estimates are larger than the differences among the fits of the various theoretical models.
