About DEWATRA 2026
The "green shipping" or "sustainable shipping" is an objective for the shipping industry to transport goods without greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The need to expedite the decarbonisation of waterborne transportation is paramount, given the time-sensitive nature of climate change mitigation. In the pursuit of a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future, several research questions are posed to the community:
How can the maritime industry reduce GHG emissions and transition to sustainable shipping practices?
- What are the most effective strategies for achieving short-term and long-term reductions in GHG emissions in the maritime sector?
- What technological innovations in ship design and propulsion systems can enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions?
- Which alternative fuels and onshore supply infrastructures need to be developed for their practical emission-free use on board ships?
These topics, which will be addressed at this Conference, are also the main concerns of the COST Action DeWatra, which is promoting the Conference. The Conference is not limited to COST Action members but aims to attract a broader audience engaged in any aspect of reducing GHG emissions in maritime transportation.
It is expected that the Conference will influence decision-makers, shape policies, promote sustainable practices, enhance industry knowledge, and contribute to economic growth and job creation in the shipping industry.
