(2010), “Smooth transition between fuzzy regions to overcome decision failures in the boundary intersections of fuzzy membership functions: A case study of collision avoidance in ocean navigation”, Proceedings of the Uncertainty and Robustness in Planning and Decision Making (URPDM 2010), 15-17 April, Coimbra, Portugal

This paper focus on a novel method to overcome the failures in fuzzy logic based Decision Making (DM) process, where the intersection of the contradictory decision boundaries of the fuzzy membership functions, by creating smooth transition region between fuzzy decisions. Further, a case study a decision making process of collision avoidance of ocean navigation has been considered. In this study, a decision making process of ocean navigation has been analyzed, input and output Fuzzy Membership Functions (FMF) are derived, If-Then rule based Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) has been formulated and simulation results are presented regarding several intercepted decision boundary regions.
