This paper describes a computer based tool that has been developed with the purpose of supporting the decisions aiming at a fast response to combat oil pollution at sea with origin in ships in order to minimize their economical and environmental impact. This work dealt with the compilation, treatment, analysis and availability of all the necessary spatial information. The information has been compiled and analyzed in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. This tool aims to allow a better functionality of the implementation of the “Contingency Plans” to combat of oil spills in the continental Portuguese Economic Exclusive Zone.
