Guedes Soares, C. and Garbatov, Y. (1997), “The Fatigue Reliability of Ship Hulls with Random Limit State”, Advances in Safety and Reliability, Guedes Soares, C. (Ed.), Pergamon, Vol. 2, pp. 1467-1476

A formulation is presented for the assessment of the reliability of a ship hull with respect to fatigue failure of the longitudinal members. The model allows for the existence of multiple cracks and it accounts for the crack growth process. The fatigue reliability is predicted by a time variant formulation and the effects of maintenance actions in the reliability assessment are shown. This method extends an earlier one by considering the uncertainty in the description of the time varying limit state. The sensitivity of the reliability estimates with respect to several parameters are also studied.
