In the context of probabilistic design and of code writing it is necessary to assess the uncertainty of the various load and strength prediction methods is present use Aand to quantify the uncertainties in the different variables involved. In this work attention is directed to the uncertainties associated with the prediction of extreme hydrodynamic loads for ultimate limit state design of offshore structures. In this paper, the uncertainty sources existing in this procedure are determined and their relative contribution to the total variability of the load prediction is assessed by the use of First Order Second Moment Methods. No account has been made for the model uncertainty implied by applying a long-crested design wave instead of a more complete wave model.
