The in-house manoeuvring simulation code MANIST was augmented with the empiric mathematical model developed by Pershitz and under his supervision in the years 19601985. Although the model had been initially developed on the basis of a series of light cruisers and was known to provide good predictions for naval combatants, it was later extended to more full-bodied merchant vessels. Results of computations of the behaviour of the KVLCC2 ship in standards manoeuvres (turning circles, Dieudonné spiral, zigzags) as well as time histories of various kinematical components were obtained with the model mentioned above and also with the well-known Inoue and Kijima models. Comparisons with some independent published data were also carried out. The results demonstrate a considerable scatter of the predictions while some sub-models combinations showed better quality of predictions than the others.
