Floating wind energy concepts have multiple challenges during installation. Float-over technologies have been developed and successfully applied to offshore installations of integrated topsides onto different fixed and floating platform substructures in the industry. This paper addresses numerical modelling and time-domain simulations during the float-over operation of a wind turbine on floating on a spar substructure. Time domain simulation results are presented for critical responses such as gripper forces, vessel and floating spar. A sensitivity study of the responses in different wave directions is also performed. For this type of marine operations, it is useful to evaluate the probability of acceptable weather conditions. The wave statistics for the North Sea was chosen for the operability and uptime analysis.
