The discoveries of Brazil’s pre-salt layer brought to light the logistic problem of staff transfer to fields considerably far from the coast. Several additional fields distant up to 300km from the coast will be explored, thus a solution for the problem proves necessary. This paper analyzes the alternatives for a logistic support platform, to serve as a hub in the staff transfer process. Since accommodation units are usually used in the offshore industry as an appendix of production/drilling rigs, the hub constitutes an innovative design, and introduces new challenges in the people transfer interfaces. A market analysis of accommodation units was performed in order to evaluate the tradeoffs between constructing, upgrading and renting a platform, and estimate expenditures for further financial analysis. Extensive data gathering on accommodation units in the various configurations has also been conducted, allowing statistical analyses and the obtainment of indices and regressions relating the design parameters.
