A network model is introduced to model maritime transportation, supported by a scalable and scope neutral model of the network agents. Network modelling that can cope with the diversity of the entities involved in the transportation business and with the wide ranges in the scale and scope of the analysis domain and thus it can support the analysis of the competitiveness of container port terminals. Graph algebra can then be used to analyze port terminal competitiveness, which relates with the network robustness. A simple example model illustrates this procedure, exploiting full centrality and full intermediacy scenarios.
