Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2011), “Reliability assessment of plate elements with random properties”, Maritime Engineering and Technology, Guedes Soares et al. (Eds),Taylor & Francis Group, London, pp. 1361-1375

This paper aims at reviewing work that has been performed on the topic of reliability assessment of plates with random properties mainly focused on the contribution of the authors. The reliability assessment methods and the reliability formulations applicable for plate elements under in-plane compression, as well as the typical stochastic models of the relevant random variables are presented. Particular emphasis is given to the effect of initial distortions and non-uniform corrosion on the ultimate strength, and consequently, on the probabilistic models of the ultimate strength and on the reliability of the plate elements.
