Hallak, T. S. and Simos, A. N. (2018), Influences of a bow turret system on an FPSO's pitch RAO , Maritime Transportation and Maritime Transportation and Harvesting of Sea Resources, Taylor & Francis, pp. 465-471

The influences of mooring lines and risers on the first order responses of a floating system moored with catenary cables have not yet been systematically studied; likewise, it’s not well understood when these influences may be seen primarily as a kind of added stiffness, added damping or added inertia, if not always a complex superposition of influences. The following paper presents several analyses and comparisons between methods in order to assess the actual influences of a bow turret in the pitch RAO of an FPSO system. Both frequency and time domain simulations were performed; and the results were compared with outputs from simplified algebraic formulations. Different sea depths and lines’ parameters/configurations were considered in order to provide consistent comparisons and a coherent separation of influences into geometric stiffness, elastic stiffness, damping and inertia. The separation of influences gives important insights for further considerations of the turret influences on floating systems.
